Hi all, I'm new to KNX etc.. etc.. :D

I'm using ETS3 on a friend computer, so I have limited time to play with it. My home has Gewiss actuators and Berker push buttons.

I'd like to something apparently simple : when I push a button in the bathroom I'd like to turn off lights and turn on the fan. I can do that with two push buttons, with timing for the fan and all the rest, but I'd like to do it with ONE button press.

I cannot find a way to program a single button to send OFF to an address group and ON to another.

Please help, thanks in advance!

Hi Simone,

It always depends on what your push button is able to do, take a look at the ETS database, but I can think in three alternatives right now:

  1. You could use a scene where the actuator, upon reciving the scene number, would switch off one output and swith on another, or
  2. You could, if it allows it, change the way the actuator switches on and off, I mean, the polarity of the switching object, thus making the fan output (for instance) to close the contact upon receiving a 0 instead of a 1, or
  3. This is the one I like more, if the push button has the option to send 2 objects with one key, you could use one to send the OFF to the lights' group address and the other to send the ON to the fan's group address.

All three options should work. The last one is possible with some push buttons in the market and it's not uncommon, so take a look at it. The second one is maybe a bit tricky. And the first one I think should be possible with almost any hardware in the market.

I hope this helps, let me know if I can be of any more help, or if you need me to clarify any of the options above.

Best regards,

Asier.

Hi Asier, thanks for your answer. I've updated my Berker and Gewiss ETS databases to make sure I have the last versions, but I cannot find anything for solution 2 nor 3. The fan would be a timed actuator, and I'm afraid it is not supported by the scene system. It's funny that a simple operation like bitwise "not" (your solution 2) is not a standard feature imposed by KNX.

Hi Asier, unfortunately I have not managed to do what I wanted. Scenes do not support timers, Gewiss actuators does not support activating on "0" instead of "1", and Berker push buttons does not support sending two objects. It's disappointing that such a simple thing is not possible with something that costed many thousands euros.

Hi Simone, It's not the scene the one that need supporting timers, but the actuator. The scene is only used to call a certain behaviour at the actuator, the parameters at the actuator will make a timed off or not, so check the actuator.

It certainly is dissappointing not having the ability to send two objects with the push button, as most simple binary inputs allow this. If you pass me the part number I could take a look at the database just to double check (provided you are not in a hurry).

Regards.
