Hello. I'm looking for some good and not so expensive solution to control audio system from KNX.

Requirement:

  • Tuner FM (very poor internet connection)

  • Mp3 from NAS

  • basic control from KNX pushbuttons (volume, turn on/off)

It will be very good, if the communication is dirrectional.

Any ideas?

Tommy I can suggest you a few possibilities but to be honnest I don't think they are cheap solutions

  • EISSOUND i500 (central or independent FM tuner in every room, central unit for CD audio or MP3 Audio with IPOD dock)+ EISSOUND KNX Interface. The IPOD would be your music storage location, I know it is not techically a NAS but if is only for music it can do the job. See http://www.eissound.com/audio-for-home/i500 and http://www.musikinjedemraum.de/multiroom/knx/index.html(description of EISSOUND KNX interfaces but in German language, could not find it at the EISSOUND web site)

  • Philips Streamium range of wireless, or wired, audio players with UPnP client ( for example MCI298-Wireless Micro Hi-Fi System capable of tunning FM or Internet radios), or instead the Nokia Home Music, plus NAS with UPnP/DLNA server ( these days most of them already are ) plus Gira Home Server with UPnP add-on or, instead of Gira Home Server, BaB-Tec EibPort ( also with support for controling UPnP devices)

Update ( 2011-07-18): Another option is to use the audio distribution system from EIGAUDIO. EIGAUDIO DOMOS2 + EIGAUDIO KNX Interface 40580 ( see http://www.egiaudio.com/knx/indexeng.html). Nevertheless the setup is more complex. The use of a NAS would have to be made through some kind of PC, with for example XBMC software installed, or audio unit capable of reading the contents of the NAS via UPNP/DLNA, like the Nokia Home Music, and outputing the sound to the input of the EIGAUDIO DOMOS2 central unit. The control of that PC, and installed software on it, or the Nokia Home Music, for music selectin would have to be done via KNX to IR. Not very clean.

Thank you very much for your update.

Talking about UPNP with GIRA I've tried it 3 months ago with WD TV Live + Wifi. It didn't work on GIRA IPAD App. There were no option to export UPNP to IPAD client. The only way was to control UPNP on quadclient installed on PC.

And it isn't integration with KNX. Gira brings integration with QuadClient installed on PC. You can control media from QC, but not from KNX pushbuttons or HS html-visualisation.

EISSOUND looks interesting. Have you tested this integration?

Not the EISSOUND i500 series. It is quite recent. It is though one of the options I'm considering also for my own home but I want to test first the KNX + a central UPNP/DLNA server approach since it leaves me also open the option for future video distribution ( See also the update I made on my previosu answer)
