Does anybody has both ETS versions and working? I installed ETS4 and now I can't export projects from ETS3. It's saying more than one ETS running. I have database backups, but I have to import every .vd file again in each database. when you import projects you import everything even a .vd files. I see that the problem is mostly in external plugins that are open outside of ETS like many of GIRA KNX devices have. Also I noticed that after falcon2 install, communication and download in ETS3 aren't working properly. Says download finished, but changed devices aren't doing what they should. This question comes also as a warning to all who would like to try and experiment with two ETS versions simultaneously. |

ETS3 and ETS4 can be installed in parallel and can even work in parallel. There may be only one problem and that is if you would use the same interface when accessing the bus. Do you have the error message of more than one ETS running even if only ETS3 is running and ETS4 is closed, e.g. after a computer restart? ETS4 can take over and convert the databases of ETS3, by the way, so the whole thing with vd-files is not necessary. What do you mean by falcon2? What Falcon version and setup are you referring to? No. In my case I open only ETS3, ETS4 is closed and after clean restart, and I still get error message. if you try to import database file with GIRA devices that need external plugin to parameter, you get message that you need to install them manually. no info in new ETS4 help files on falcon, but I remember reading about new falcon version coming with new ETS. there was also something about no time limits, but I can't find it now.

here's the answer from KNX support:
so much for support. I can imagine that GIRA will put an effort in correcting this migration problem. maybe they will publish a note saying that one should export project files before start of ETS4 installation. :) as for comunication problem, looks like Siemens HVAC product RXB21.1/FC10 (that's the element that is not working correctly after download) has problems with ETS3 and falcon2.0. I can remember that they even released patch for fixing download problems in ETS3f, so this could be the problem in this situation also. as I said in first post, this is more like warning for everyone who might come in similar situation. |

You should get in contact with support. These situations would have been tested under many circumstances and if there would have been any problem, it would have been corrected before ETS4 was released. Falcon 2.0 makes part of the ETS4 setup; you cannot install it separately. I had understood that somewhere you got a Falcon 2.0 and installed it stand-alone. do you have both versions installed and running? if not, I don't understand why are you selling me semantics. I do know how old and new version should work, but I'm telling here my experience, and asking for same from anyone else. nhf

now, let's make few updates. it's been a while since ETS4 is here. the last version is 4.3 so few bugs have been corrected. I have made a full transition to ETS4, reinstalled my PC with only ETS4 (ETS3 has gone to history). Now I have one specific project and I have to work in ETS3 again. I need to work with SIEMENS PX KNX gateway which doesn't work with ETS4 export files. I heard lots of info that users had problems with ETS4 & ETS3 working together. I know I had, but as it turned out, it was the ETS4 demo version that made my life living hell ;). Got instructions from knx.org how to clean uninstall ETS4 demo, but after all the trouble, the cleanest way for me was to reinstall OS. After while, I also startet to have different compatibility issues on my Win7 x64 based PC, like I couldn't update firmware on GIRA 5,7" info touch display, or I couldn't use SIEMENS support tool for device reset...lots of such unpleasant situatitions and driver problems... to make the story short, do you work on both ETS3&4 on same PC, and do you have any problems now? Do you think it would help to install ETS versions o two different accounts, limited only to one account? Maybe I'm making panic without the reason, but, bether safe than sorry, right? thanks for your answers. |
