Did somebody know if it exist a meteo station for KNX using wireless sensors. I think it is dangerous to use wires between a KNX device connected to the bus and outdoor sensors which can be destroyed by thunder. But I am unable to found this kind of meteo station.

What is your feeling?

At Light and Building 2010, Warena ( see http://www.warena.com) presented a sun powered Weather Station where the info would be sent wirelessly ( via Standardised WAREMA Radio System (EWFS)) to a RF receiver and the RF receiver would transmit that info to the KNX bus. You can see their catalogue on http://www.warema.com/en/Architekten_Netz/Energie_sparen_mit_Sonnenschutz/_dokumente/WAREMA_BR711103032010en.pdf.

I could not find exact details of the weather station but you can see the EWFS RF receiver and KNX bus connector at http://www.warema.com/en/WAREMA_Steuerungssysteme/Products/EIB_KNX/EIBEWFS.php.

You can try to contact them to find out the exact details.

I didn't hear for such a device.

you have overvoltage protection for KNX line, but in the event of direct strike, if your building doesn't have good lightning protection on the outside, you will have total damage on equipment inside the building.

i allways combine lightning arresters for eletric cabinets, with KNX line overvoltage protectors and never had any problems with lightning strikes on such buildings. on the other hand, I never faced with direct strike too.

Yes, a surge protection on the bus (ABB US/E 1) is always a good idea. But, as you said, in case of direct strike the whole installation can be damaged. In this perspective, a meteo station with wireless sensors seems a better idea.

Nevertheless, there are other cases where the bus can be exposed (outdoor camera, outdoor movement sensor, and so on). So I retain your surge protection as a good solution.

I've heard about wireless weather station, but now I can't find it... I'm almost sure that something like this exist... It should be from some German manufacturer. I though that Elsner, but I hadn't found it in catalogue.

Are you maybe thinking of the EnOcean range of wireless sensors? I dont think they produce a wireless weather station.
