When using KNXnet/IP it is not necessary to work with areas.

If you are using IP-routers instead of the line couplers, you can connect 225 lines.

If you use IP-routers instead of area couplers, you can connect 15 areas and then use normal line couplers below as usual.

It is also possible to mix the topology, but you have to do it properly.

For example, if you have an IP router with address 1.0.0 (ie a logical area coupler), you can not use another IP router with address 1.3.0 (ie a logical line coupler). Telegram intended for line 1.3 will then go two ways in which one of them is a blind alley.

On the other hand, it is no problem in the above example to add IP-routers with address 2.1.0, 2.2.0 and so on. but then of course you can not add 2.0.0 no more.

I hope this clarifies a bit
