I need to extend a KNX system with wireless technology and would prefer something else than the Insta Funk-system. Mainly because i need some simple plug-adapters for flexible use.

There are a lot of such devices compatible to Z wave but i cant find a gateway to KNX.

Cytech's Comfort system has a KNX and Z-wave interfaces (see http://www.cytech.biz/Default.aspx?cmd=ID%2ftW5Xw2bTCO626ZAAInw%3d%3d&productid=76&categoryid=9&pageindex= and http://www.cytech.biz/Default.aspx?cmd=ID%2ftW5Xw2bTCO626ZAAInw%3d%3d&productid=216&categoryid=9&pageindex=). I contacted Cytech with this question and their anwser was : "Yes Comfort can act as a gateway between Zwave and KNX Any KNX object can trigger a transmission to a Zwave device and get feedback"

Maybe this is a path that you can investigate more.

I will look into it, very interesting

I came across another possible option to interface Z-Wave and KNX based on a central control unit to interface these protocols. It's from Pulse Technolocgies and you see it in http://www.pulseliving.com/en/productfamily/products/pulsecontrol

They refer the example of having Z-Wave push button to control a KNX dimmer ( http://www.pulseliving.com/en/article/technology/automation.html

There's also a control device, maybe a bit tailored more towards Z-Wave, that could potencially become a gateway solution between KNX and Z-Wave (as well as UPnP and other protocols). It's called Vera and it's made by "Mi Casa Verde", see http://www.micasaverde.com/. It's firmare/operating system includes a development environment called Luup ( Lua UPnP). You can read on their web site:

"Luup (Lua-UPnP) is Mi Casa Verde’s new software engine which incorporates Lua, a popular scripting language, and UPnP, the industry standard way to control devices. (...) Luup translates all the various protocols into standard UPnP: Z-Wave, Zigbee, Insteon, KNX/EIB and other home protocols, infrared remote control (ie TV’s, Stereos, cable boxes, etc.), serial devices (ie alarm panels, high-end a/v gear, etc.), Ethernet devices (IP cameras, GC100, etc.), as well as your own custom devices and applications, are translated by Luup into industry standard UPnP, and can be controlled by any UPnP Control Point. "

See http://wiki.mios.com/index.php/Luup_Press_Release and http://www.mios.com/development_tools.php

It seems promissing.

The Siemens KNX PLC could be programmed to be an bidirectional getaway from KNX to Z-wave and Z-Wave to KNX. As any other protocol.

Siemens KNX PLC could be a gataway KNX to Z-Wave and Z-Wave to KNX as any other cimbination of protocolos. It has to be programmed to translate those protocols and it works. And it is chip.

The second solution is to pick-up any of the Z-Wave to IP protocol, and in the KNX network use the KNX IP routhers instade of Kine cuplers, so KNX network will function on the IP protocol.

And one more solution is to use OPC and makes a software getaway.
