What software is recommended for visualization of a simple KNX installation in a private house? It must not cost too much and it should not take too much time for commissioning. |

This is a subject were I have been also doing some research. And there are some possible answers. All depends on how much we are able to spend and how we want to control our system. If on a dedicated LCD panel, PC based dedicated software, inside a web browser, on a PDA with Windows Mobile or on an iPhone. When cash is not the problem a the solutions mentioned on the previous comment are suitable but for a not so high cost solutions I have found so far the following:
Any of the solutions I mentioned implies that you have an IP network at home an a KNX/IP router. Hope this hepls The base version of ayControl is free since quite a while. So if you have an KNX IP router or KNX ip interface, a WLAN router and an iPhone / iPad / iPod touch you can start controlling KNX (with a limited set of 6 control elements) for free. See http://aycontrol.com for more information.

ayControl is little too pricey. The iTunes version is just a demo. You need to purchase for something useful, then you are looking 600EUR for the version that is probably just a bit too small for a private house, or 900EUR for the version that will work. 900EUR just for an iPhone application and no hardware ... that is 20% the cost of my total KNX install and too high, but then as pro-sumers with this technology we are probably marginal market, so far I am having better luck with Open Remote KNX.

I have never used a special software. I believe embedded web-devices such as Homeserver, IC1 and BAB-tec is the best solution because you don´t need a dedicated computer. Anyhow i think that Voayger from NetxAutomation looks clean and simple voyager looks OK, but it's not low cost...at least from my point of view.

I recently came across some interesting KNX software that I would encourage you to test. It is called LIGO It is FREE and you can download it from http://www.ligo.tv. It is made to run on a Windows platform and it is touch enabled so you can run it on a PC with a touch screen or on a Windows tablet. have fun EB 1
It is also available to MacOSX and upon request to Linux platforms. Another great advantage is that you can use Ligo to connect to KNX/IP device and other Ligo installations share the same connection.

You can also try out OpenRemote as a free tool also. Take a look at http://openremote.org/display/HOME/OpenRemote . Requires as usual a KNX/IP device. Have set up a BAB-tec homeserver for touch screen visualisation and used OpenRemote for the households iPhones and Android devices. Worked like a charm and easy to set up. |

I work on Aycontrol software, it's fast, nice, but full version is expensive. |
