With the increased energy focus, I encounter more often customers who want to have CFL´s (Compact Fluorescent Lamps). This is a big problem when it comes to dimming. It doesn't seem to be a standard for this issue in short term but some lamp-manufacturers claims that their CFL´s are dimmmable and some KNX-manufacturers indicates they can dim CFL´s (example Theben DMG2). Has anyone tried this combination with good results or has any other inputs to this issue i would be happy.

Yes you can dm CFL's with KNX. - Firstly you need a CFL with 4 pins. In our experience a Bayonet CFL will not work. We have tried the Megaman CFL lamps with no success using GIRA regular leading and trailing edge dimmers. - Secondly you need a DALI or 1-10V dimmer. We use DALI becuase it is more versatile. - Thirdly you need a KNX to DALI gateway. GIRA, Hager and others make such a device. We have domne many installs with these and they work well. Dali can also be used for regular 12V loads and to dim LED which is tricky using any other technology just use a different ballast.

Ok, Megaman is not working with Gira. What do you mean by "no sucess"? are they flickering or not working at all?

There is a range of dimmable cfl's on the market now which are Bayonet Cap & Edison Screw type (normal household fittings), I dont know how well the work, I might go out and get one later and let you know, but i think you can use them on normal dimming actuators or switches

Try Googling CFL Dimmable i got a few results, againg im just geting one to see how good they are.

A CFL is a fluorescent tube with a ballast that is not dimmable.

To dimm a fluo lamp you need either a 1-10v or a dali balast.
